Swiss Youth Symphony Orchestra 2024 - "Fairy Tale Dreams"
représentation
On the spring tour of 2024, the SJSO will go into musical fairytale forests...
“In the Forest” is the name of the symphonic poem by Mikolajus Konstantinas Ciurlionis from 1901.
A delicate orchestral dream by the Lithuanian composer, who also worked as a painter.
Almost ten years later, Igor Stravinsky amazed Parisian ballet audiences with his “Firebird,” a fairy tale set in the garden of the evil sorcerer Khashchei.
Hardly ever has such colorful music been written as in this ballet, which is both the climax of romanticism and the foreshadowing of modernity.
Peter Tchaikovsky's First Symphony is also a musical dream journey.
He titled it “Winter Dreams” without formulating any more precise content.
This debut work by the great symphonist Tchaikovsky is full of stubborn beauties.
By the way, all three composers were in their mid-twenties when they wrote their works - which is another reason why it's a fitting program for the young musicians in the SJSO!
The tour is being developed and directed by Modestas Pitrenas, chief conductor of the St.
Gallen Symphony Orchestra and specialist in the works of his compatriot Ciurlionis.
